Cancún, Quintana Roo — A state prosecutor’s office announced prison sentences of 40 and 35 years for two men convicted of raping minors in separate incidents in Quintana Roo’s resort areas.
The Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office (FGE) said Carlos Sánchez Santiago and Marco Antonio Carrillo Sabido received the sentences for crimes committed in Benito Juárez (Cancún) and Playa del Carmen municipalities. The Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Sexual Crimes presented evidence that secured the convictions.
Both victims were children whose identities remain protected. Sánchez Santiago’s victim was 11 years old, while Carrillo Sabido’s was 4.
Case Details
- Carlos Sánchez Santiago: Received 40 years for a 2023 rape in Cancún’s Ciudad Natura neighborhood. The court also ordered him to pay a 259,350-peso fine plus 36,744 pesos in damages.
- Marco Antonio Carrillo Sabido: Received 35 years for a 2021 rape in Playa del Carmen. He must pay a 188,202-peso fine plus compensation for moral and material damages.
Judges in both cases also mandated psychological therapy for the perpetrators as part of their sentences.
