Mahahual, Quintana Roo — The bodies of two men, apparently fishermen, were discovered on a remote beach along the coastal road between Mahahual and Xcalak in the Othón P. Blanco municipality. The victims showed signs of torture.

According to unofficial reports, the discovery occurred on Friday night, but information only began circulating publicly on Saturday afternoon. A local resident passing through the area reported the find to authorities in Xcalak.

One man was found inside a small boat with injuries to his head and body. He also had a blue nylon rope around his neck.

The second victim was found naked on the sand with injuries and bruises on his right leg and head.

Due to the remote location, National Guard personnel arrived hours later to secure the scene and notified the State Prosecutor’s Office. Forensic experts then collected the bodies and transported them to the medical examiner’s office.

Based on the condition of the bodies, authorities suspect the men were killed as part of a revenge attack between criminal groups.
