Cancún, Quintana Roo — Two people died after a shooting at a bar in Cancún early Tuesday morning, authorities said.
The attack occurred around midnight at El Carbonero bar in Region 510, on Las Torres Avenue near Chac Mool Street. Gunfire caused panic among customers and nearby residents.
A 911 call triggered a Code Red response, mobilizing officers from the Quintana Roo Public Security Department and Benito Juárez municipal police. Upon arrival, police found one person dead on the street in front of the establishment.
At the scene, officers also located a man with gunshot wounds. Paramedics from the Rescue and Medical Emergency Squad provided emergency care before rushing him to a hospital.
The victim was admitted to the Jesús Kumate Rodríguez General Hospital but died hours later in the trauma unit due to the severity of his injuries.
While processing the crime scene, investigators from the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office seized a handgun and several spent shell casings. Forensic experts collected evidence for the investigation.
The bodies were taken to the Forensic Medical Service for autopsies. Prosecutors have opened an investigation to determine what happened and identify the victims.
