Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A man and a woman were shot and killed in a drive-by attack in the La Guadalupana neighborhood late Wednesday night, authorities reported.
Preliminary reports indicate that gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on the victims as they walked along Chichén Itzá Avenue. Residents alerted police after hearing multiple gunshots, prompting a 911 call.
Municipal police officers and paramedics responded to the scene but confirmed the victims showed no signs of life. The area was cordoned off as authorities launched a search operation for the assailants, who fled to an unknown location. No arrests have been reported.
Personnel from the State Prosecutor’s Office (FGE) later arrived to process the crime scene and remove the bodies, which were transported to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) for examination.
Prosecutors have opened an investigation into the double homicide.
