Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — An intense police mobilization occurred on Wednesday night following the discovery of two bodies in an advanced state of decomposition on the outskirts of the municipal seat of Playa del Carmen.
The discovery took place around 8:30 p.m. on the road connecting Punta Maroma Street with Kin-Ha, near the Nuevo Noh-Bec locality.
According to preliminary information, a citizen report to the 911 emergency number alerted authorities to the presence of the bodies.
Upon arriving at the site, police officers confirmed that it was a man and a woman who were deceased, with their remains showing evident signs of putrefaction, indicating they had been abandoned at the location for several days.
The area was cordoned off by police elements to preserve the scene, while personnel from Forensic Services and the Investigation Police carried out the corresponding procedures. Due to the advanced state of decomposition, it was not possible to obtain immediate data regarding the identities or causes of death.
The bodies were transferred to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo), where the legally required autopsy will be performed to determine the approximate time of death and whether there are signs of violence.
The State Attorney General’s Office has opened an investigation file to clarify the facts.
