Tulum, Quintana Roo — A federal judge has granted a provisional suspension to Eliazar Sagrero Ordoñez, the leader of the Tiburones del Caribe taxi union in Tulum, who is imprisoned for a quadruple homicide; however, the measure does not allow him to leave prison.
On Friday, January 23, Sagrero Ordoñez received the partial benefit from the Ninth District Court, where an injunction is being resolved through which he seeks to leave the Municipal Detention Center in Playa del Carmen.
“The requested provisional suspension is granted regarding the imposition of mandatory preventive detention, for the purpose that the complainant remains at the disposal of this district court in the place where he is being held, as far as his personal freedom is concerned, and of the judge of the case regarding the continuation of the proceedings,” reads the file 846/2025 of indirect injunction.
That is, the federal judge will oversee his criminal process, but it does not mean he has to leave jail.
Just last December, in another proceeding, he managed to have his criminal proceedings suspended, but also without leaving jail.
In November last year, Sol Quintana Roo reported that the Eighth Specialized Criminal Chamber in Cancún denied annulling the linking to proceedings against the taxi leader, accused of a quadruple homicide, according to the ruling issued by Judge Omar Yael Landero Rosado, head of the Eighth Chamber.
Sagrero Ordoñez was arrested in August 2024; however, he was later placed under house arrest; nevertheless, it was recently detected that an escape was being planned.
In response, the Quintana Roo Prosecutor’s Office requested a search warrant from a control judge, which was executed on July 31, 2025, and with that he was rearrested and transferred to the Playa del Carmen jail.
Ordoñez Sagrero was under house arrest in a property located in Playa del Carmen, where ministerial agents went to carry out the rearrest order.
In the case of Ordoñez Sagrero, his affiliates sought to pressure authorities by blocking part of Federal Highway 307 last September.
If found guilty, he could face a prison sentence of up to 30 years.
