Tulum Strengthens Security Coordination with New Defense National Chief

Authorities meeting in Tulum to discuss security coordination with the new Defense National chief

Tulum, Quintana Roo — Municipal, state, and federal authorities held a meeting at the Public Security and Citizen Protection facilities in Tulum to introduce Colonel Pedro Hernández as the new chief of the Defense National in the municipality.

During the meeting, Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo emphasized the coordination between different levels of government on security matters. He stated that joint efforts will continue to strengthen protection for residents and the tourism sector.

The mayor noted that while security challenges remain, Tulum was removed in January from the list of municipalities considered high priority for high-impact homicides, attributing this to collaboration among security agencies.

Colonel Pedro Hernández expressed the Defense National’s commitment to maintaining cooperation with local and state authorities to safeguard both residents and visitors.

Following the meeting, officials toured the facilities of the new Control, Command, Communication, and Computing Center (C4), where security agencies from all three levels of government are expected to operate jointly.

Authorities agreed that interinstitutional coordination will be key to maintaining and improving security conditions in the municipality.
