Tulum, Mexico — During 2025, the municipality of Tulum historically completed the opening and rehabilitation of four public access points to its beaches, allowing free enjoyment of the coast for both residents and visitors.
These actions resulted from a coordination process among the three levels of government. It was driven by the city council led by Municipal President Diego Castañón Trejo, in response to a social demand pending for several years.
Interinstitutional Management and Citizen Demand
Federal, State, and Municipal Coordination
The process began in the middle of the year, following direct requests from municipal residents, which led to interinstitutional management work with federal agencies such as the Secretariat of Tourism and the Secretariat of National Defense, in addition to the State Government.
According to municipal authorities, these agreements allowed progress on a solution with social and economic impact, key for the tourist development of the destination.
Participation of Productive and Social Sectors
As part of the strategy, working groups were established and later expanded to include business owners, hoteliers, fishermen, tourism service providers, and civil associations.
The objective was to comprehensively address the issue of beach access and generate conditions of stability and certainty for tourism activity in Tulum.
