Tulum, Quintana Roo — Local officials and Maya Train managers met this week to develop strategies for promoting rail travel to an upcoming NASCAR event and Mexican Air Force air show at the Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport.
Tulum councilman Jorge Portilla Mánica and Maya Train station manager Santiago Sergio Herrera Espinosa discussed plans to encourage visitors to use the new rail infrastructure during the events scheduled from March 23 to 26.
The meeting focused on creating a joint strategy to leverage the train’s connectivity to the airport and facilitate transportation for what organizers expect to be a large influx of national visitors.
Among the measures considered are preferential fares for Quintana Roo residents, special discounts linked to the air show and car races, and reduced rates for student groups organizing excursions.
Organizers anticipate significant visitor movement to Tulum, which could translate into increased tourism activity and economic spending during the event days.
The officials also agreed to promote sports and cultural activities at Maya Train facilities to generate more dynamism at this regional connection point.
