Tulum, Quintana Roo — Authorities in Tulum have arrested a man accused of sexually abusing and endangering the lives of his three young children, who were reportedly living in severe neglect following their mother’s death.
The Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office detained Emeterio “N” on a judge-issued arrest warrant after relatives filed a complaint. Investigators allege the man is the father of the victims, aged 14, 11, and 4.
According to initial findings, the children faced abandonment after their mother died. The suspect reportedly struggled with alcoholism and frequently returned home intoxicated, failing to provide food or basic care.
The case came to light on February 15 when a maternal aunt noticed signs of possible abuse on the 4-year-old girl. With the father unresponsive, relatives rushed the child to a hospital in Othón P. Blanco municipality.
Doctors diagnosed the girl with severe dehydration and malnutrition. At four years old, she weighed only 10 kilograms. Her condition required intubation and mechanical ventilation.
The girl remains hospitalized, while her siblings are now under the care of maternal relatives with support from the DIF family services system.
Investigative police officers executed the arrest warrant and turned the suspect over to judicial authorities. His legal status will be determined within the constitutional timeframe.
