Tulum, Quintana Roo — Health authorities are launching a free rabies vaccination campaign for dogs and cats across Tulum municipality, starting Sunday, March 22, to protect pets and prevent rabies cases in the community.

The campaign will offer free vaccinations for pets aged one month and older, with a booster at three months and annual applications to maintain protection. Organizers said the vaccine can also be administered to pregnant, nursing, or in-heat females.

Vaccination modules will be set up in neighborhoods, subdivisions, and communities throughout the municipality, with most operating from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Insabi Community Hospital (Vector Office) will provide services from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

On March 22, the campaign will begin at five locations: the kiosk in Akumal, Xel-Ha Family Park in Chemuyil, CROC Park in the Sac Bé neighborhood, Aldea Tulum subdivision, and Dos Aguas Park next to the municipal palace in the Centro neighborhood.

Activities will continue from March 23 to 29 in various city neighborhoods and subdivisions, as well as in communities including Macario Gómez, Francisco Uh May, Manuel Antonio Ay, Cobá, San Juan de Dios, Sacamucuy, Chanchen I, Hondzonot, Yaxché, Chanchen Palmar, and Punta Allen. Modules will be installed in parks, domes, and community spaces.

Additional vaccination points include neighborhoods such as 2 de Octubre, Carlos Joaquín, Huracanes, Cristal, Triunfadores, Yaax Tulum, Palmas Tulum, Guerra de Castas, Villas Tulum, Xul Kah, Tumben Kah, Maya Pax, Invasión Nassin, and Antorchista, along with the permanent site at Insabi Community Hospital.

Authorities urged residents to follow safety measures when bringing their pets. Dogs must wear a collar or harness and leash, and a muzzle if necessary. Cats should be transported in a carrier, bag, or secure container. Each pet must be accompanied by an adult.

Pet owners are advised to inform veterinarians if their animal has had previous vaccine reactions. Officials emphasized that rabies vaccination is crucial to prevent the disease, which can affect both animals and humans.

“Caring for them is caring for everyone. The vaccine is completely free and is the best way to show how much we love them, keeping them safe and protecting our community’s health,” organizers said.

Residents are encouraged to check dates and available modules to visit the nearest point and ensure their pets’ protection.
