Tulum’s Croquetón 2026: Swap Pet Food for Native Plants

Community members donating pet food at Tulum's Croquetón 2026 event

Tulum, Quintana Roo — The Tulum City Council has launched the call for Croquetón 2026, a permanent animal welfare support program that promotes responsible pet ownership and citizen participation. The initiative is organized through the Directorate of Environmental Sustainability (DSA) and the General Directorate of Health (DGS).

The first event of the year will take place on Monday, January 26, 2026, at the “Dos Aguas” dome located next to the Municipal Palace, from 9:00 to 13:00 hours. During the event, food donations will be received and various free services will be provided to citizens.

Pet Food Exchange for Native Plants

As part of the main dynamic, municipal authorities announced that for every two kilograms of donated pet food, participants will receive a native plant from the region, simultaneously promoting animal care and preservation of the natural environment.

Dry food for dogs and cats will be accepted, and as a new feature in this 2026 edition, the formal reception of cat litter has been integrated, thus expanding the program’s scope and the needs addressed.

Free Services and Responsible Adoption

In addition to collecting supplies, Croquetón will function as a comprehensive animal welfare day, as deworming actions for pets will be carried out, along with a workshop on making ecological beds, focused on material reuse and responsible care.

Similarly, the permanent “Responsible Adoption” campaign will remain active, through which a definitive home is sought for dogs and cats under shelter, reinforcing social commitment to animals in vulnerable situations.

2026 Calendar Dates

To facilitate citizen participation, the municipal government announced a bimonthly Croquetón calendar for the rest of the year, all scheduled on Mondays:

  • March 30
  • May 25
  • July 27
  • September 28
  • November 30

Authorities called on the population to join this initiative, highlighting that Croquetón 2026 seeks to establish itself as a space for community collaboration that positively impacts animal welfare, environmental education, and sustainability in Tulum.
