Tulum Delivers Free Medicines to Health Houses in Vulnerable Communities

Tulum, Quintana Roo — Tulum has launched its first mass distribution of free medicines to fully restock the community health houses operating across the municipality’s delegations, with priority given to rural and Indigenous areas that record the highest levels of vulnerability.

Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo led the first delivery from the health house in the community of Macario Gómez. Officials said that site will coordinate the shipment of medical supplies to the municipality’s other operational centers.

More Than 4,500 Residents Treated

At the delivery event, Marcelo Torres Arana, the municipality’s director of medical and pharmaceutical assistance, said that so far in 2026 the local government has provided free care and medical supplies to more than 4,500 residents of the region.

Castañón Trejo said the supplies were purchased on an urgent basis to strengthen the community primary care network.

“We are supplying all the health centers with this first delivery of medicine; this purchase was given priority because health is a right, not a privilege,” he said.

Distribution Reaches Marginalized Areas

Sonia Vargas, director general of municipal health, said the distribution logistics are handled directly by the Directorate of Medical and Pharmaceutical Assistance.

She said the central aim is to guarantee a permanent supply of essential treatments and to ensure timely diagnoses in the most marginalized areas.

The initiative forms part of a broader plan to strengthen local health infrastructure and to keep free medicines available to families in Tulum on a continuing basis.
