Tulum Seeks Federal OK for Jaguar Park Beach Access

Tulum, Quintana Roo — The Tulum City Council has endorsed a proposal to open public access to beaches within the Jaguar National Park as part of an emergency plan to boost tourism in the municipality. The measure, introduced during the Twentieth Council Session by Seventh Councilman Jorge Portilla Mánica, will now be forwarded to relevant federal authorities for approval.

Push to Revitalize Tourism

Portilla Mánica emphasized the need for immediate action to improve hotel occupancy rates, noting that tourists are increasingly choosing alternative destinations such as Bacalar, Playa del Carmen, Cancún, and Isla Mujeres. "Today, visitors prefer locations without the same restrictions or the impact of sargassum," he stated.

The councilman also proposed organizing a summer festival to promote Tulum as a vibrant destination for music, culture, and Caribbean energy. His initiative received unanimous support from fellow council members.

Land Donation for Municipal Development

In the same session, the council ratified an agreement with real estate firm Cadu Inmobiliaria S.A. de C.V., which will donate a plot of land to the Tulum municipal government. Following administrative procedures, the property will be incorporated into the city’s assets, enabling infrastructure projects to address urban development needs in the growing municipality.

Regulatory Updates Approved

The council also approved amendments to the municipal regulations governing the General Directorate of Sustainable Urban Territorial Development and the Internal Regulations of the Treasury. Additionally, members unanimously voted to establish the Internal Regulations of the General Directorate of Administrative Oversight for Tulum. These measures aim to regulate commercial and service establishments, public space usage, and local commerce and public event policies.

The session concluded with these decisions, marking a step forward in Tulum’s efforts to enhance tourism and municipal governance.
