Tulum, Mexico — Facing a sharp economic slowdown due to the low tourist season, business leaders in Tulum, led by the National Chamber of Commerce, Services, and Tourism (Canaco-Servytur), have announced plans for a Forum for Analysis and Proposals. The initiative aims to develop solutions to reactivate tourism and commercial activity in the municipality.
A Collaborative Effort to Mitigate Economic Impact
Felipe Náhuat Chimal, president of Canaco-Servytur Tulum, confirmed that the forum is in the planning stages and is expected to take place before mid-June. Participants will include representatives from the hotel, tourism, and restaurant sectors, as well as authorities from all levels of government and civil society organizations.
“The forum’s purpose is to create a space for dialogue where we can analyze the effects of the low season and propose alternatives to help businesses and service providers navigate this challenging period,” explained Náhuat Chimal.
Key Proposals: Boosting Domestic Tourism
Among the main proposals to be discussed is the implementation of tourism promotion campaigns targeting the domestic market. The goal is to attract visitors during the off-peak months and highlight Tulum’s year-round attractions.
Náhuat Chimal emphasized that the decline in tourism has severely impacted small businesses, tour guides, service providers, and workers in the sector, raising concerns among the business community.
“We need to take collective action. This isn’t just about enduring the low season—it’s about finding mechanisms to keep Tulum competitive and attractive as a destination year-round,” he stated.
A Platform for Long-Term Solutions
The forum is intended to serve as a permanent working platform to develop sustainable strategies that will help the municipality prepare for future economic downturns. Organizers view this as a critical opportunity for the private sector and government to collaborate on building a more resilient and diversified economic model.
