Tulum, Mexico — The municipal government of Tulum has distributed 1,000 scholarships to students across various educational levels, including individuals with disabilities, as part of an initiative to reduce dropout rates and alleviate financial burdens on families.
Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo led the scholarship ceremony, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to ensuring no child in Tulum is denied an education due to economic hardship.
A Commitment to Inclusive Education
The program, coordinated by the General Directorate of Education, the Scholarships Directorate, and the Tulum City Council, targets students from elementary school through university, with additional support for those with special needs. The scholarships provide direct financial assistance to cover expenses such as school supplies, transportation, uniforms, and institutional fees.
“Today, we reaffirm a deep conviction: in Tulum, no girl or boy should be left without an education due to lack of resources,” Castañón stated during the event.
Recipients were selected based on academic performance, economic circumstances, and social conditions to ensure aid reaches those most in need. Authorities confirmed this marks the second round of distributions this year, with plans to expand the program in the future.
Strengthening Families and Communities
Castañón acknowledged the critical role of parents and guardians in supporting their children’s education.
“The effort of mothers, fathers, and guardians to provide a quality education for their children deserves the full backing of the municipal government,” he said.
The mayor also outlined broader educational initiatives, including school renovations, teacher training, and infrastructure improvements, as part of Tulum’s strategy to enhance social development through education.
“Today, it’s 1,000 scholarships, but tomorrow we aim for more. We will continue working to make this support not an exception, but a permanent policy in Tulum,” Castañón added.
The program underscores the municipality’s focus on education as a cornerstone of progress, aiming to improve both access and learning conditions for students at all levels.
