Emergency responders at the scene of a tractor-trailer rollover on a highway near Felipe Carrillo Puerto

Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Mexico — A tractor-trailer rollover on the highway between Felipe Carrillo Puerto and Chetumal left two people injured late Tuesday night, including the driver who was trapped in the cab.

The crash occurred around 10 p.m. on the outskirts of Felipe Carrillo Puerto. Motorists reported seeing the heavy vehicle overturned in vegetation along the roadside.

Firefighters, Red Cross paramedics, and National Guard personnel responded to the scene. The National Guard temporarily closed the highway to allow emergency crews to conduct rescue operations.

According to initial reports, the truck was traveling southbound from Cancún toward Chetumal when the driver allegedly lost control while taking a curve, possibly due to excessive speed.

The vehicle struck rocks, causing the rollover. Both injured individuals, including the trapped driver, were rescued after nearly an hour of work by emergency personnel.

The two were transported to a hospital in Felipe Carrillo Puerto. The damaged vehicle was towed to a federal impound lot for safekeeping.
