Puerto Aventuras, Quintana Roo — A driver lost control of a white Ford Ranger pickup truck, causing it to plummet from the elevated bridge near the Puerto Aventuras municipal building. The incident occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. as the vehicle traveled northbound on Federal Highway 307, between Playa del Carmen and Tulum.
Details of the Accident
Witnesses reported that the truck began swerving erratically while crossing the bridge before colliding with the guardrail and overturning onto its side. Bystanders immediately alerted emergency services via 911.
The driver managed to exit the vehicle and fled the scene before authorities arrived, abandoning the damaged truck. National Guard personnel called a tow truck to clear the roadway and restore traffic flow.
Recurring Safety Concerns
This is not the first such incident on the bridge, which has faced criticism for its deteriorating condition. Repeated accidents have damaged the metal guardrails, and maintenance has been neglected despite safety risks.
No injuries were reported, but the incident has renewed calls for infrastructure improvements to prevent future accidents.
