Mérida, Yucatán — The Tren Maya has launched a new Sunday route linking Mérida with the Chichén Itzá archaeological site, allowing passengers to make the round trip in a single day.
The service began operating on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2026, with a departure from Mérida at 8:30 a.m. and a return trip leaving Chichén Itzá at 4 p.m. The schedule gives travelers several hours at the site before heading back to the Yucatán capital.
One of the draws is the Tren Restaurante, a dining car where passengers can eat during the journey between the two stops. The route currently runs only on Sundays, according to the train operator.
Chichén Itzá is one of Yucatán’s leading tourist and archaeological destinations, and the new service expands travel options for visitors hoping to see it on a day trip from Mérida.
Tren Maya officials urged travelers interested in the service to check the railway’s official channels for ticket availability and other details.
