Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A traffic accident at a busy intersection on Tuesday afternoon caused material damage and temporarily blocked traffic, according to local reports.
The collision occurred at the intersection of Paseo Central and Calle 125. Preliminary information indicates the driver of a Volkswagen Virtus allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign while traveling west to east, colliding with a Volkswagen Golf that had the right of way.
The impact was significant, prompting an immediate response from emergency services and traffic authorities. Witnesses reported both vehicles came to a stop in the roadway, briefly obstructing traffic in the high-volume area.
The occupants of the Volkswagen Golf sustained contusions from the crash. Red Cross paramedics arrived at the scene in a medical unit and provided pre-hospital care. After assessment, responders determined the injuries were not life-threatening, and transport to a city hospital was not required.
Municipal Transit officers also responded to document the accident, conduct the corresponding investigation, and determine liability. Initial reports suggest the driver of the Volkswagen Virtus failed to obey the stop sign, leading to the collision and material damage estimated at several thousand pesos.
Authorities worked to clear the intersection and restore traffic flow while gathering information for an official report. A tow truck later arrived to remove both vehicles to an impound lot, where they will remain until legal responsibilities are determined and damages are covered.
