Tourists Miss Flight After Collision with Public Transit Van in Mérida

Mérida, Yucatán — Five foreign tourists were injured and missed their flight after their vehicle collided with a public transit van in Mérida’s historic center, prompting a major emergency response.

The crash occurred at the intersection of 66th and 45th streets, blocking traffic and causing chaos in the area. According to information gathered at the scene, the driver of the tourist vehicle was heading to the airport when he failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection.

The driver of the public transit van, traveling north to south toward the city center with 16 passengers aboard, could not brake in time and struck the side of the tourist vehicle.

Five passengers in the tourist vehicle suffered significant injuries requiring medical attention, while the occupants of the transit van experienced nervous breakdowns but emerged unharmed. The tourists missed their scheduled flight as a result of the incident.
