Crocodile seen with deceased dog in teh Sian Kaan

Tulum, Quintana Roo — A video taken by tourists showing a crocodile dragging a dead dog through the water in Tulum has gone viral, sparking renewed warnings about the presence of reptiles in the region’s lagoons and mangroves.

The incident occurred Saturday in a lagoon within the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, in the municipality of Tulum. The footage left onlookers stunned and has caused an outcry on social media.

Wildlife experts note that crocodiles are part of the local fauna and stress the importance of staying away from water bodies where they live and keeping pets and people under close supervision.

Authorities have urged residents and visitors to heed warning signs and take extra precautions in areas where crocodiles have been reported.

The video has also ignited debate about the impact of urban development and human presence on wildlife in Quintana Roo’s tourist destinations.
