Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo — Three separate abductions reported within 24 hours in communities of the Maya Zone have raised security alarms in this municipality, amid growing criticism of the local government’s response to the violence.
According to preliminary reports, a group of armed individuals broke into a home in the community of Tepich early Tuesday morning. They allegedly subdued two men, forced them from the property, and loaded them into trucks before fleeing to an unknown location.
After a 911 emergency call, federal forces, investigative police, the Mexican Army, and municipal police launched a major operation. They searched rural roads, trails, and nearby highways in an attempt to locate the victims and the perpetrators.
Hours later, in the town of Señor, authorities reported a similar incident. Several individuals intercepted a man on a public street and forced him into a vehicle in what is presumed to be another abduction.
Unofficial reports indicate the victim was beaten and later abandoned on a nearby highway. He managed to ask a local resident for help, who then alerted authorities.
These incidents occur as residents of the Maya Zone have expressed growing concern over an increase in violent events. On social media and in public forums, critics have questioned the municipal administration led by Mayor Mary Hernández, accusing her of prioritizing social events and self-promotion over addressing security needs in the municipality.
