Cancún, Quintana Roo — A significant security mobilization occurred at the Cancún General Hospital on the afternoon of September 20 after a guard reported a threat linked to illegal "gota a gota" lending schemes. The incident prompted the deployment of multiple security units to the facility.

Confusion and Emergency Response

The event began around 4:06 p.m. following a report to the 911 emergency line that alerted authorities to a woman with a gunshot wound at the hospital. Three units from the State Attorney General's Office (Geavig) and three units from the Municipal Police arrived at the location, causing concern among patients and hospital staff.

Origin of the False Report

According to preliminary information, the emergency call was made by a security guard employed at the hospital. The employee stated that he felt threatened by a group of armed individuals, alleged collectors operating under the "gota a gota" method, to whom he owed money.

In his report, the guard indicated that there was a person injured by a firearm. This situation later proved to be false and triggered the immediate mobilization of authorities. The alleged presence of a shot woman was ruled out upon the arrival of police officers.

Reports indicate that the alleged criminals intimidated the guard with a firearm, which led him to make the alert call in a state of nervousness. This confusion activated the emergency protocol for cases of armed violence.

Municipal authorities confirmed that no injured person was located inside the hospital. Instead, an investigation file was opened regarding the threat against the security guard and concerning the modality of illegal "gota a gota" loans, a practice that has on multiple occasions led to extortion and violence.
