Tulum, Mexico — Officers from the Executive Police and the Reaction Force responded to the Mistiq Tulum residential complex after detecting a live social media broadcast in which a woman desperately pleaded for help following death threats from a neighbor.

Incident Details

The victim, identified as 33-year-old María Bobadilla Olvera, reported that the incident occurred on Sunday night when she was walking her two dogs through the complex’s common areas. During her walk, a neighbor aggressively approached her, shouting that she should not walk her pets in the area and threateningly warned her: "Go back inside, or I’ll kill you and your dogs."

Frightened by the violent words and fearing for her safety, María returned to her home without confronting the aggressor. However, feeling alone and unprotected, she decided to go live on her Facebook account, requesting intervention from authorities. The video was quickly shared in neighborhood groups, where other users expressed solidarity and concern.

Police Response

The broadcast was detected by the Executive Police’s operational personnel, who were conducting preventive social media monitoring. A patrol was immediately dispatched to provide direct assistance to the victim. Upon arrival, officers found María visibly distressed and showing signs of anxiety. After hearing her account, they activated an assistance and containment protocol, assuring her of institutional support.

Minutes later, the complex’s security manager, Héctor Salinas, arrived and confirmed prior knowledge of the conflict, pledging to accompany the victim. As part of the procedure, officers provided María with the direct contact information for the Executive Police director and the on-duty officer in case she required additional support.

Next Steps

María expressed gratitude for the authorities’ swift response and stated her intention to file a formal complaint for threats with the State Attorney General’s Office.

The case highlights how social media has become an effective tool for immediate reporting but also underscores the growing tensions that can arise in residential complexes where residents of diverse nationalities and cultures coexist.

The Executive Police reiterated its commitment to promptly addressing citizen reports, particularly those involving risks to physical and emotional safety. They also urged fostering peaceful coexistence, mutual respect among neighbors, and dialogue to resolve differences, preventing conflicts from escalating into threats to community security.
