Rabies Prevention Campaign Expands in Quintana Roo Ranches

Cattle ranchers participating in rabies prevention campaign in Lázaro Cárdenas

KANTUNILKÍN, QR. – The Local Cattle Association has begun work on the third stage of the campaign for the control and prevention of paralytic and bovine rabies in livestock species, which involves vampire bat capture across 36 ranches in the municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas.

The association’s president, Romualda Ruiz Herrera, thanked the work of the Quintana Roo State Committee for Livestock Promotion and Protection (Cefppqroo) for continuing the campaign and, above all, for the support provided by specialists in the field, Ángel Abraham San Martín Santiago and Eleazar Cante May.

She indicated that the campaign aims to serve, in four stages, 36 ranches in the municipality, with the objective of preventing paralytic and bovine rabies and protecting livestock health.

Furthermore, she noted that these efforts help reduce the incidence of wounds that could facilitate the presence of the screwworm, and recalled that last month a series of training sessions were implemented for producers to mitigate this problem.
