PUERTO MORELOS, Mexico — With the full support of Puerto Morelos Municipal President Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz, who reaffirmed her commitment to sports and recreation, the third edition of the Reto Mapache cycling race, titled "In Search of Toh," was presented today. The event is scheduled for November 16 on the Ruta de los Cenotes.
During a press conference, Raúl Guadarrama García, Secretary of Sustainable Tourism for Puerto Morelos, stated that the non-profit competition will feature women's and men's divisions and will include 11.5 kilometers of jungle terrain.
"There will be two days of intense recreational and sporting activity. It is a sustainable event in which participants will interact with the flora and fauna of the Ruta de los Cenotes," he added.
Jaime de Jesús Barbera Gálvez, a representative of Mapaches MTB Puerto Morelos, the organizing group for the competition, indicated that its primary objectives are to promote mountain biking in safe spaces and foster respect for the jungle and wildlife.
"With this activity we also seek to strengthen social interaction and ecotourism, in addition to promoting the natural attractions of Puerto Morelos," he affirmed.
For his part, Jesús Eusebio Pérez Reyes, also a member of Mapaches MTB Puerto Morelos, said that both the women's and men's divisions will include categories for Beginners, who will ride a 10 km route; Intermediates, 30 km; and Open or Advanced, 46 km.
"Those who register will be charged a recovery fee of 600 pesos, but those who wish to attend with family or friends will only pay for three registrations and the fourth will be free," he detailed.
He also indicated that the race will start from Cenote La Noria. Prior to the event, reconnaissance and familiarization rides for the route will be held on October 19 and November 2.
Also present at the press conference were Jaime Orlando Ku Interián, manager of Cenote La Noria, and Rocío Archundia Vázquez, of Mapaches MTB Puerto Morelos.
