Cancún, Quintana Roo — Respect for cultural diversity has entered parliamentary debate in Quintana Roo as a pillar of modern democracy, with a state lawmaker advocating for recognition of the Therian identity movement.
Santiago Frías, a member of the Youth Development Commission, stated that the state has an obligation to serve all citizens without distinction. He emphasized that Therian identity is fully grounded in constitutional rights to freedom of expression and belief.
Frías argued that recognizing such subcultures is not an optional concession but a legal mandate that elected representatives must rigorously uphold. The legislative position underscores that ignoring any group based on ideology or lifestyle represents a failure of government’s fundamental functions.
This approach aims to ensure that Quintana Roo’s public policies reflect the plurality of its current youth population.
In closing his position on social equity, Frías was unequivocal: “When rights aren’t for everyone, they’re not rights—they’re privileges. All rights belong to all people and all cultures,” he stated while defending visibility for these communities.
