Riviera Maya, Mexico — The Seas We Love, an initiative led by the Riviera Maya Hotel Association (AHRM) to address the severe issue of massive sargassum influx on the coasts of the Mexican Caribbean, has been awarded by Grupo Piñero as one of "Los Más Ecoístas de México 2025" for its outstanding contributions to environmental sustainability.
The recognition was presented during the inaugural edition of the awards ceremony, where AHRM President Toni Chaves and Ignacio Muñoz, CEO of The Seas We Love, accepted the honor. The initiative, now in its fourth year, seeks solutions to the environmental and tourism challenges posed by sargassum, which affects the vacation destination—particularly the hotel sector, which invests approximately 130 million pesos annually in seaweed collection and disposal.
Jury Recognition and Commitment to Sustainability
The Grupo Piñero jury selected The Seas We Love for its efforts in raising awareness and developing alternatives to mitigate the damage caused by sargassum in Quintana Roo.
"This award acknowledges years of work in the Riviera Maya for the Mexican Caribbean. Tourism has no future without deep and serious respect for nature, a goal we have set for ourselves in the association," said Toni Chaves while thanking the Piñero family, which leads the international tourism corporation celebrating its 50th anniversary.
The Premios Los Más Ecoístas recognize the efforts of suppliers, collaborators, and national and international partners of Grupo Piñero who uphold high-quality standards and contribute added value in sustainability.
Grupo Piñero stated that the "Somos Ecoístas" movement, which spearheads these awards, aims to raise societal awareness and encourage small individual actions for significant impact. The initiative reinforces the company’s commitment to environmental protection and combating climate change.
The Seas We Love continues to lead efforts in transforming an environmental challenge into sustainable solutions for the region.
