Playa del Carmen, Mexico — A taxi driver was fatally shot in the head twice on Sunday afternoon in Tulum’s hotel zone, near the beach club Taboo, amid the bustling summer vacation season. The incident occurred in full view of tourists passing through the area.
Victim Identified as Union Member
The victim was identified as Gilberto “N,” a driver for taxi unit number 798 affiliated with the union Tiburones del Caribe. The attack took place around 5:15 p.m. on Sunday.
Rising Homicide Toll in Tulum
This marks the 32nd homicide in Tulum in 2025 and the 216th since Diego Castañón assumed office as municipal president. Authorities have launched an investigation into the shooting.
