Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A confrontation between traditional taxi drivers and ride-hail drivers erupted on Federal Highway 307 near the El Cielo subdivision in Playa del Carmen on Tuesday afternoon, prompting police intervention to prevent the situation from escalating.

The incident occurred around 1:20 p.m. when taxi operators confronted drivers working for the inDrive platform for picking up passengers in an area they consider part of their usual work territory. The verbal exchange quickly intensified, drawing several drivers to the scene.

Motorists traveling on the federal highway slowed down, fearing the dispute might turn physical as some involved parties appeared visibly agitated.

Municipal police officers arrived to mediate between the two sides, urging drivers to disperse to avoid further tension and potential legal consequences. After several minutes of negotiation, the situation cooled down without reports of injuries or significant property damage.

The clash highlights ongoing tensions between traditional taxi services and digital ride-hailing platforms in the region.
