Taxi driver attacked in Puerto Aventuras shooting incident

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A taxi driver was injured after being attacked with a firearm while providing transportation service to the San Josesito ranch, located south of the Puerto Aventuras borough in the municipality of Playa del Carmen. The violent incident was reported on Friday night, prompting an intense mobilization of security forces in the area.

According to initial reports, the driver was transporting passengers toward that area when, for reasons still unknown, he was attacked with gunfire. During the assault, the public transportation vehicle received at least three bullet impacts, evidence of the violence with which the attack was perpetrated.

Following the events, the vehicle was secured and transported to the facilities of the Puerto Aventuras taxi union, where it remained under guard for corresponding procedures by ministerial authorities, who will conduct necessary forensic examinations as part of the investigation.

The taxi operator suffered injuries to one of his arms; however, it was reported that his health condition is stable and he is out of danger. Despite the aggression suffered, the driver managed to transport himself to the Puerto Aventuras Health Center, where he received initial medical attention from on-duty personnel.

Subsequently, he was referred for a more comprehensive evaluation to the health sector, under the responsibility of the State Health Services (SESA), with the objective of ruling out more serious injuries and monitoring his medical progress.

So far, authorities have not reported any arrests nor specified the exact circumstances in which the attack occurred. The corresponding agencies have already initiated investigations to clarify the facts, identify those responsible, and determine the motive for the aggression.
