Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Emergency crews launched a major search operation on Saturday afternoon after a swimmer disappeared in the waters off Mamitas Beach, a popular tourist spot in this coastal city.

Witnesses reported seeing the individual enter the sea but failing to resurface after several minutes, prompting immediate alerts to authorities. Civil protection personnel and firefighters quickly arrived at the scene, located at Calle 26 and the Federal Maritime Zone, to begin search efforts.

Officials activated aquatic search protocols, aiming to locate the person as soon as possible while visibility conditions remained favorable. Police from Playa del Carmen’s Public Security Department also cordoned off the area to assist rescue operations and maintain order on the beach.

Authorities have not yet released the identity, gender, or whether the missing person was a tourist or local resident. They expect to provide further updates on the search progress and wave conditions at the time of the incident in the coming hours.

The coordinated rescue operation remains active, with emergency services requesting that citizens and tourists clear the maneuver area to avoid hindering the work of units operating along the coastline.
