On the afternoon of Thursday, May 9, reports of a potential explosion in the Playacar complex in the Solidaridad municipality surfaced. In response, local authorities were dispatched to investigate the area following several calls from concerned citizens.
Upon inspection, no evidence of any explosive device was found. The authorities also extended their investigation to other areas in Playa del Carmen, including Xcaret Park. After thorough scrutiny, the Solidaridad Civil Protection authorities found no signs of damage or impact.
To further understand the situation, the Solidaridad Civil Protection reached out to the National Disaster Prevention Center (Cenapred). They aimed to ascertain if the reported incident was a result of an earthquake or an aftershock. However, data from diagrams and graphs ruled out any such seismic activity.
The authorities suggested that the loud noise could have been caused by a natural earth movement. Despite the inconclusive findings, the authorities have pledged to remain on high alert. They have also urged the public to report any information or evidence that could help determine the cause of the supposed explosion.
Interestingly, some residents claimed the noise was so loud it could be felt as far as Cozumel.
