Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A 38-year-old woman from Tabasco survived an attempted femicide Saturday morning in the Real Bilbao neighborhood of Playa del Carmen, allegedly at the hands of her partner. The suspect, identified as Alejandro Iván "N," a 32-year-old man from Campeche, remains at large after attacking the victim with a sharp weapon, inflicting a severe neck wound.

Attack Reported by Neighbors

Investigators from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) Homicide Division arrived at the hospital to document the case and initiate corresponding protocols. The victim was later taken to an early intervention facility to formally file a complaint for attempted femicide. She has since been referred to the Municipal Women’s Institute, where a psychologist is providing specialized support.

Under Article 89 bis of Quintana Roo’s Penal Code, femicide is defined as the intentional killing of a woman due to gender-based motives. The law encompasses sexual violence, injuries or mutilations, prior domestic violence, a relationship of trust or intimacy between perpetrator and victim, threats, harassment, or isolation preceding the crime.

Convictions for femicide in Quintana Roo carry prison sentences ranging from 25 to 50 years, along with fines equivalent to 1,500 to 3,000 days’ wages.
