Chetumal, Mexico — The company Ocelote Renovables, S.A. de C.V. has requested an Environmental Impact Statement from the General Directorate of Environmental Impact and Risk for the construction of a solar park at Laguna Om to generate electrical energy.
The proponents state that the “Laguna Om Solar Park” project, to be carried out by Ocelote Renovables, S.A. de C.V., with intended location in the municipality of Othon P. Blanco, arises from the need to supply clean energy according to the scheme established in the Electricity Sector Law, to inject into the electrical energy grid with the best and maximum quality in its generation process, as well as availability with competitive prices to satisfy energy needs in productive processes.
The project consists of the stages of site preparation, construction, operation and maintenance, as well as site abandonment of a photovoltaic solar park that will be directly connected to the National Electric System and which has a Net Capacity of 100.00 MW of power in Alternating Current injected at the Interconnection Point, 121.80 MW of power in Alternating Current at the inverter output and 142.506 MWp of power in Direct Current.
The installation will take advantage of the available characteristics of the site, as well as the selected technology according to an installation of 219,240 photovoltaic panel modules for capturing solar energy, avoiding the emission of pollutants into the atmosphere by not using fossil fuels in electricity generation.
According to the above, the project will contribute in favor of the country and globally, with the generation of electricity through clean energies, as well as with the commitment to unconditionally reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 22% by 2030 compared to the baseline, as established in the General Climate Change Law.
It is estimated that the investment to carry out the project is around 110 million dollars during the different stages of the project. The amount that would be allocated for environmental prevention, mitigation and/or compensation measures would be around one million pesos per year.
Ocelote Renovable reports that the project contemplates a total duration of 31 years, during which the first three years and nine months will be used for site preparation work, the last three months of year four and five are contemplated for construction and installation of all necessary infrastructure for the project’s operation. Between year six and 30, that is, during 25 years, will be destined for operation and maintenance. Finally, the last year will be necessary to carry out site abandonment.
