Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum will arrive in Quintana Roo on Friday, June 20, to follow up on the federal program Salud Casa por Casa (Health House by House) and assess progress on hospital infrastructure in the state, Governor Mara Lezama announced during her weekly program La Voz del Pueblo, broadcast on social media every Thursday.
Focus on Indigenous Communities
Lezama expressed enthusiasm for the president’s visit to the Maya zone, emphasizing its historical and cultural significance. "We are very pleased that she will tour the Maya region. This is great news. She will visit where the Caste War took place, where the majority of our Indigenous Maya people live—this wonderful population that has become visible under the government of the Fourth Transformation," the governor stated.
Felipe Carrillo Puerto, the municipality Sheinbaum will visit, has recently benefited from several major projects, including the ongoing construction of a general hospital, an international airport, and a Tren Maya terminal.
Health Priorities and Hospital Expansion
Lezama highlighted the opportunity to discuss healthcare projects directly with the president. "I’ve prepared a detailed list to discuss with her. The goal is to bring health services closer to all Quintana Roo residents," she said.
The governor noted that the Salud Casa por Casa program, already underway, aims to reach individuals aged 65 and older or those with permanent disabilities. A total of 179 healthcare workers are being deployed across the state to implement the initiative.
Lezama also confirmed plans to meet with IMSS Bienestar to improve hospital care in Quintana Roo. "We will review the progress of hospitals under construction in Felipe Carrillo Puerto and Chetumal. I will also request a maternal and children’s hospital and continue advocating for a third-level hospital, which Quintana Roo needs and deserves," she added.
Broader Healthcare Strategy
During the tour, Lezama intends to present Sheinbaum with a comprehensive overview of healthcare challenges in the state. "We will visit the Maya zone but also share images of conditions in other hospitals. The objective is to advocate, explain the current situations, and delve into the details of Salud Casa por Casa," she said.
The governor urged residents to verify the identification of healthcare workers visiting their homes, ensuring the program’s legitimacy and effectiveness.
Sheinbaum’s visit underscores the federal government’s commitment to addressing healthcare disparities in Quintana Roo, particularly in Indigenous communities. The trip will also serve as a platform to evaluate ongoing infrastructure projects and outline future investments in the state’s medical facilities.
