Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Authorities have launched a search and rescue operation for a cruise ship crew member reported missing approximately 11 nautical miles off the coast of Punta Allen.
The Playa del Carmen government, led by Mayor Estefanía Mercado, is participating in the operation through its Citizen Security Department in coordination with the Mexican Navy.
Officials activated emergency protocols immediately after receiving the report, deploying maritime units and the Citizen Security Department’s “Albatross” helicopter. The helicopter is conducting aerial surveillance and providing rescue support with specialized personnel conducting sweeps of the area.
The search continues with priority given to locating the missing individual. Authorities have not yet confirmed the person’s whereabouts.
This operation follows previous rescue missions conducted along the state’s coastline, particularly in the Mahahual and Cozumel areas, where authorities from all three levels of government have maintained coordinated responses to maritime incidents.
