Mérida, Yucatan — A search collective from Quintana Roo has expanded its efforts to locate missing persons into the neighboring state of Yucatan, launching a week-long campaign in the city of Mérida.

The group “Verdad, Memoria y Justicia” began its activities on February 9 and will continue through February 13, working in coordination with authorities from both states. Participants include representatives from the National Search Commission, the state commissions of Quintana Roo and Yucatan, and the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Disappeared Persons.

Romana Rivera Ramírez, founder of the collective, explained that the decision to move into Yucatan stems from indications that some of the missing individuals might have been taken to that state. The search group members are posting photographs and information on poles and walls throughout central areas of Mérida, hoping to gather leads that could help locate their loved ones.

“Many families are still waiting for answers,” the searchers said during their campaign, as they read aloud the names of those who remain missing.

The group emphasized that they continue their work under the premise that their family members could still be alive and called on the public to support their efforts by sharing the information they disseminate.
