Mérida, Yucatán — The massive blackout that affected thousands of people across the Yucatán Peninsula yesterday is the clearest evidence of Morena's incompetence and its inability to govern, according to Gaspar Quintal Parra, the state president of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI).

Quintal Parra stated that the lie told by federal and state authorities has been exposed. For some time, these authorities have claimed to be investing in maintenance and electrical infrastructure, yet it has become more than clear that the region is suffering a true energy crisis.

“They will come out to justify their lack of capacity to maintain this vital service for everyone, arguing that it is the fault of neoliberalism and the policies of previous governments, but the reality is that they have spent seven years without being able to solve everyday problems,” he asserted.

He emphasized that the people of Yucatán do not deserve these kinds of electrical failures that damage their daily lives, harm businesses, and ruin appliances, as well as food and medicine that require refrigeration.

He specified that the blackouts generate uncertainty, anger, insecurity, and, on many occasions, desperation among the people, who are already fed up with the high costs of electricity rates and being left without power at any moment.

“This government justifies itself by saying it supports the people with scholarships, but it does not support the people with what is truly needed. If there is no light, there are no medicines; there is no light, but there are new rich people making deals under the protection of power,” he accused.
