CHETUMAL — Staff of the Servicio de Administración Tributaria (SAT) have called for a peaceful labor protest for next Tuesday, October 14, 2025, in response to the federal government's refusal to grant them the salary increase corresponding to this year.
The demonstration will begin at 8:00 hours and will consist of a work stoppage at the tax agency's offices across the country. Workers will wear red or black clothing as a sign of their discontent and under the slogan "Without us, the SAT stops."
According to a statement disseminated by SAT workers on October 1, the protest arises after the corresponding salary increase, which by law should have been applied since January 2025, was not reflected in their pay. They recalled that in 2024, a resolution from the Consejo de Representantes of the Comisión Nacional de los Salarios Mínimos was published in the Diario Oficial de la Federación, which established a 12% increase to the minimum wage in Mexico. This raised the general daily wage to 278.80 pesos, effective as of January 1, 2025.
However, SAT workers, including lawyers, analysts, auxiliaries, enlaces, and confidential staff, denounce that, to date, they have not received the corresponding raise. This has generated uncertainty and dissatisfaction among employees of different administrative units of the tax agency.
The statement notes that, given the increasing inflation that year after year impacts workers' purchasing power, the nominal salary has become insufficient to cover basic daily needs. In light of this, they cited the position of Mexico's President, Claudia Sheinbaum, who, they demand, has stated in her morning conferences that there will be no increases for federal public servants in 2025.
The organizers of the mobilization reiterated the call to participate in the labor protest, after it was confirmed this past Friday, October 10, via an account on the social network X (formerly Twitter), that there would be no salary increase for SAT staff this year.
The message also calls on SAT chiefs, general administrators, central administrators, and administrators of different units to show solidarity with their staff, address labor needs, improve the physical conditions of buildings and furniture, and apply the ethics and integrity policies promoted by the institution.
Furthermore, it demands respect for labor rights and, principally, that employees' salaries not be negatively affected. "True labor justice is achieved when every worker demands respect and dignified conditions," concludes the statement, which emphasizes the peaceful nature of the protest and calls for staff unity to demand just working conditions and a dignified salary.
