Chetumal, Mexico — Royal Caribbean representatives have reiterated that the company has not begun construction on its Perfect Day project in Mahahual, clarifying that a recent closure by environmental authorities affected only one of three approved sites for demolition and removal of existing structures.

The company stated that the closure by PROFEPA, Mexico’s federal environmental protection agency, pertained solely to work demolishing and removing pre-existing, dilapidated structures and industrial waste found on the property when Royal Caribbean acquired it, which the company said represented sources of contamination.

Representatives said that while federal environmental authorities review the project’s Environmental Impact Assessment (MIA), Royal Caribbean has hired two top-tier independent environmental experts to conduct a thorough investigation into the issues raised.

They affirmed that initial findings reported no irregularities and that final results will be submitted to the relevant authorities to address the matter quickly and transparently.

The company added that it maintains constant communication with local residents and aims to meet the highest environmental standards, exceeding normal requirements.
