Tulum, Mexico — The Diamante K hotel, owned by Mexican actor and businessman Roberto Palazuelos, has been at the center of various controversies, the most recent following an armed group’s intrusion into the property. But what is this place like?
Palazuelos left Mexican soap operas behind to dedicate himself to the hotel and restaurant industry. Of all his tourist establishments, according to him, Diamante K is the “most economical” of them.
What is Roberto Palazuelos’ Diamante K Hotel Like?
Roberto Palazuelos stated that the hotel was founded on the beaches of Tulum in the 1990s and celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2025.
According to him, he purchased the property when the area was not touristy through a loan and subsequently helped popularize the zone.
“I arrived in a Tulum 30 years ago. The road that is there now wasn’t there, it was a tiny one where, when you visited and a car came from the other side, you even had to move over because it seemed like the side mirror would hit. It wasn’t a municipality; at that time, that territory belonged to Cozumel,” he declared on the podcast Entre Creadores.
The actor detailed that the construction does not resemble the large towers like in Cancún or the big hotels of the Riviera Maya; instead, they are boutique-style with cabins and bungalows, information confirmed by Gustavo Adolfo Infante, with whom the owner of Tacos Papi stated that “of his hotels, it is the most economical.”
The complex is located within the Tulum National Park, declared a protected area; therefore, he can no longer build more in that zone.
And one of the current commitments of the “Black Diamond” is that he must care for nature and the environment, or otherwise he may receive sanctions.
The details about what Roberto Palazuelos’ hotel is like were shared in an interview he gave for the YouTube channel Badabun.
“The concept is of a Mayan village, we have bays here inside, there is a room where original stones from the area were respected (…) we have statues of Mayan gods, a yoga garden, I never thought about destroying all this and putting in concrete, I have always said that the most beautiful architectural work is nature because it is the work of God.”
The facilities feature different works of art, including some pieces based on paintings by Salvador Dalí, among them the ‘Triumphant Angel’.
The Diamante K hotel in Tulum has private bays and also has plant species, which are under the care of the staff, Palazuelos indicated.
How Much Does it Cost to Stay at the Diamante K Hotel?
The cabin-style rooms at the Diamante K hotel have different costs depending on the amenities.
The price is modified mainly by the view each of the bungalows has; for example, one with an ocean view is more expensive than one with a garden view.
The costs for each of them, with a reservation during February 2026, are as follows per night:
- Economy cabin with shared bathroom: 77 USD ($1,327 MXN)
- Economy cabin with private bathroom: 93 USD ($1,600 MXN)
- Cabin with garden view: 113 USD ($1,950 MXN)
- Cabin with ocean view: 127 USD ($2,180 MXN)
- Suite with ocean view: 200 USD ($3,400 MXN)
What Happened with the Diamante K Hotel? Controversies of Roberto Palazuelos’ Property
In November 2025, Profeco closed the facilities of the Diamante K hotel for non-compliance with the law; this is what Palazuelos said.
“There was an operation within the Tulum National Park, but the only anomaly they found in mine was that it didn’t have the milliliters on the drink menu and that the housekeepers left tip envelopes, we didn’t know it was prohibited, but there was no rate abuse as they mention, they wanted to latch onto my fame to make noise (…) There is no major sanction,” said the ‘Black Diamond’ in a broadcast of Gustavo Adolfo Infante’s program on YouTube.
The most recent controversy is that an armed group broke into the facilities to subdue a security employee and obtain the keys to the place, but upon not getting them, they left, the Prosecutor’s Office reported.
Subsequently, the group was tracked and detained; it consisted of 3 men and a woman who already had accusations of attempted robbery and injuries.
The businessman Roberto Palazuelos congratulated the authorities for the detention of the criminals with a message through X.
