Riviera Maya, Quintana Roo — The Riviera Maya College of Architects (CARM) honored developer José Luis Martínez Alday, founder of Grupo Lomas, in a ceremony recognizing his contributions to the architectural, tourism, and social development of the Mexican Caribbean.

The event brought together industry members, officials, and special guests. The organization highlighted Martínez Alday’s influence in building and consolidating iconic destinations in the Riviera Maya and Cozumel, noting his role in positioning the region as an international reference for high-end tourism. His strategic vision, foresight, and commitment to comprehensive developments were cited as key elements in the destination’s evolution.

Legacy That Transcends

CARM President Manuel Barrero emphasized that the recognition responds not only to tangible work but to the structural impact on the region. “Paying tribute to José Luis Martínez Alday is recognizing a man whose vision, tenacity, and commitment have indelibly marked the contemporary history of the Riviera Maya and Cozumel island,” Barrero said. “A man who, without holding the title of architect or engineer, has built something much more transcendent: destination, community, and future. Today his name is part of the tourism, social, and environmental DNA of the Mexican Caribbean.”

Barrero added that Martínez Alday’s figure represents a transformative vision within the industry: “Speaking of José Luis Martínez Alday is speaking of vision, but not just any vision. It is the vision of someone who is ahead of their time, who imagines what others do not yet see and has the capacity and determination to turn the impossible into a destination.”

During the event, the college presented a special recognition for his career and architectural legacy, honoring his contribution to regional development. The organization also granted him the title of Honorary Member, a distinction reserved for personalities whose work has significantly influenced the strengthening and evolution of the sector.

The recognition adds to a series of actions by the guild aimed at highlighting figures whose work has helped shape the urban, tourism, and social development of the Mexican Caribbean, a region that continues to position itself as one of the main tourism hubs internationally.
