Playa del Carmen, Mexico — Residents of the irregular settlement San Judas Tadeo in Playa del Carmen blocked 115th Avenue near Jacinto Pat Street on Saturday night to demand the release of two men detained by the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC).

According to locals, officers entered the area and arrested the men without apparent cause. A woman also accused authorities of stealing 9,000 pesos from her home during the operation.

Protest Escalates Amid Police Silence

Approximately 50 people gathered outside the SSC offices, throwing rocks at the building’s windows and blocking traffic on the avenue as a pressure tactic to secure the detainees’ release.

No police commanders engaged with the protesters, further escalating tensions. One resident, who claimed to be a victim of theft, called on municipal authorities and the governor of Quintana Roo to "clean up" Playa del Carmen’s police force.

This is not the first time such protests have occurred in the neighborhood. As of now, authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the allegations or the arrests.
