Cancún Reporter Hit by Car During Live Broadcast

Two emergency responders assisting a patient inside an ambulance at night, wearing gear from the Mexican Red Cross

Cancún, Mexico — A routine news assignment escalated into a scene of tragedy in Cancún on Saturday night. Crime reporter César Guzmán was violently struck by an unknown driver while conducting a live broadcast from the scene of a traffic accident at the intersection of Avenida La Luna and Avenida Politécnico.

According to the incident report, the journalist was documenting an accident allegedly involving a public official when a vehicle suddenly struck him with force, throwing him several meters alongside his work equipment. Witnesses recounted that the reporter was left lying on his back, to the astonishment of onlookers.

The moment of impact was captured in real time on the "Código Rojo" news page, where the sound of the collision was clearly heard abruptly interrupting the live transmission. Following the incident, a group of motorcyclists attempted to pursue the responsible driver, though it remains unknown if they were able to locate the individual.

Paramedics from the Red Cross responded immediately and urgently transported the reporter to the Cancún General Hospital. He remains under medical care, and his condition has been reported as reserved.

The incident has generated controversy, as authorities have not ruled out a potential link between the hit-and-run and the presence of a public official at the original accident scene Guzmán was covering. This connection has raised questions about the intentionality of the aggression.

Local transit authorities announced that surveillance camera footage from the area is being reviewed with the objective of identifying the vehicle and locating the responsible party.
