Playa del Carmen — Rehabilitation work on Avenida 10 in Playa del Carmen has recorded significant progress, following the reopening of the vehicle lane in December, one of the project’s priority goals to reduce impacts during the high season at the end of the year.
According to the Undersecretary of Infrastructure and Public Works, Edgar Zapata Buenfil, the project corresponds to a large-scale initiative that includes improvements to sidewalks, green areas, bike lanes, storm drainage, and lighting, which is why its execution is being carried out in different stages.
After the lane opening, current work is focused on correcting technical details that arose during the construction process, such as repairs to drinking water pipes, electrical cables, and finishes that required subsequent adjustments.
In this phase, the installation of new trees on the sidewalk is also being carried out as part of the urban gardening component. These works are estimated to conclude by the middle of next week at the latest.
Subsequently, the paving of the bike lane will begin, which will feature a finer surface to ensure proper rolling and greater safety for users. This stage could take between one week and ten days.
Another pending task is the construction of absorption wells, necessary to improve stormwater management.
These will be carried out strategically, once points where the greatest amount of water accumulates are identified, which implies additional time for concrete curing.
In parallel, the installation of lighting fixtures is planned, as well as the execution of pedestrian crossings and road signage.
Based on the estimated schedule, the project could be completed by mid-February, provided no additional setbacks arise.
Authorities indicated that, while all public works face unforeseen technical issues, the project remains within the authorized budget and is progressing according to the planned timelines.
