QUINTANA ROO — The Secretary of Government of Quintana Roo, Cristina Torres Gómez, has announced the launch of the Puntos Seguros (Safe Points) project. This initiative is part of the measures under the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo promoted by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, with the objective of increasing safety and connectivity on the state's highways.

This project emerges as part of the digital growth that the governor has foreseen for Quintana Roo in recent years, aiming to connect people who do not have internet access by offering connection points in an easy and simple manner for all ages.

Who Will Benefit from the Puntos Seguros in Quintana Roo?

Motorists, residents of rural areas, and travelers will be able to access satellite internet at no cost via Wi-Fi. The purpose is to enable communication with ambulances, hospitals, fire departments, and tow trucks, thereby providing access to public, social, and health services. It also naturally enables communication with the Public Security Directorates of the municipalities of Tulum, Playa del Carmen, Othón P. Blanco, and Benito Juárez.

Cristina Torres stated that this is an action of the humanist and feminist government of transformation, led by Governor Mara Lezama, which aims to transform disconnected highways into safer and more connected routes.

When Will Puntos Seguros Be in Quintana Roo and Where Will They Be Located?

There are 25 Puntos Seguros already in operation, with the goal of addressing the problem of poor communication in certain road sections that have a higher risk of accidents and a lack of emergency services.

The head of the Secretary of Government reaffirmed that drivers of more than 17,000 vehicles that travel daily on the state's highways will have access to satellite internet, which offers digital connectivity with a significant component of citizen security. Furthermore, the Puntos Seguros directly benefit residents and tourists by improving the response capacity of authorities thanks to greater connectivity.

On Federal Highway 307, which runs from Chetumal to Puerto Juárez and passes through Felipe Carrillo Puerto-Tulum, there are 13 safe points. On Federal Highway 293, which runs from Lázaro Cárdenas to Polyuc, there are 11. On Federal Highway 184, which runs from Felipe Carrillo Puerto to Muna, there is one.
