Chetumal, Quintana Roo — The Strategic Projects Agency of Quintana Roo (Ageproo) has recovered 300 hectares of land belonging to the state, properties that had allegedly been sold at very low prices to third parties by individuals who, at the time, are believed to have been public officials.

A Legacy of Irregular Sales

The events occurred during the administration of former Governor Roberto Borge Angulo, who led the state government from 2011 to 2016. It was during this period that the irregular sales of these Quintana Roo properties were orchestrated. The recovered properties are appraised at over one billion pesos.

Carlos Flores Hidalgo, head of Ageproo, stated that the recovery is the result of arduous internal investigative work and an exhaustive review of the state's property registry conducted over the first three years of the current state administration.

Widespread Abuse and Ongoing Investigations

Flores Hidalgo further indicated that the sale of the properties constituted an excessive abuse of power by those who carried it out. He stated they took advantage of the lack of guidelines for the sale and disposal of properties to act in their own manner and for their own benefit.

The official confirmed that corresponding complaints have been filed with the State Attorney General's Office (FGE), the Federal Attorney General's Office (FGR), and the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Combating Corruption.

Although he preferred not to name the alleged individuals involved so as not to hinder the ongoing investigations, Flores Hidalgo indicated that at least six former officials from the Borge administration, as well as their associates, are currently under scrutiny by authorities and are included in the corresponding investigation files.

Future Use of Recovered Land

The head of Ageproo explained that the recovered properties are located in the municipalities of Othón P. Blanco and Playa del Carmen. They have now been made available for the creation of public works in the areas of health and security for citizens.
