Quintana Roo Empowers Women with Economic Autonomy Program

Women participating in economic empowerment activities in Quintana Roo

Quintana Roo, Mexico — The Secretariat of Women (SEMUJERES) has implemented a comprehensive program to strengthen economic autonomy and entrepreneurship among women in Quintana Roo. During 2025, more than 5,500 women benefited through various training sessions and resources aimed at fostering financial independence and developing productive skills.

Under the initiative titled “Mujer Es Emprender” (Women Are Entrepreneurship), significant actions have been carried out that articulate training, economic empowerment, and female leadership. This approach not only recognizes the importance of women in the local economy but also seeks to actively integrate them into the productive life of their communities.

Throughout the year, SEMUJERES, in collaboration with Nacional Financiera (NAFIN), coordinated a series of courses in the 11 municipalities of the state, reaching 3,737 women. These training sessions included financial education and techniques that facilitate the active participation of women in their households and in the workplace.

The “Mujer Es Emprender” program also translated into the organization of 132 fairs throughout the state, where 447 local entrepreneurs and producers were able to exhibit and market their products. These fairs not only strengthened their income but also fostered economic networks that are vital for local growth.

Regarding labor diversification, SEMUJERES trained 949 women in non-traditional trades, such as blacksmithing, plumbing, and carpentry, through strategic alliances with the State Employment and Job Training Service (SEECAT) and socially responsible companies. This training aims to offer greater opportunities for labor insertion and self-employment.

Additionally, one thousand scholarships for CANVA PRO were granted, allowing 416 women to learn how to use this digital tool to design graphic and audiovisual materials, essential for positioning their products in digital commerce and on social media.

The Secretary of Women, Esther Burgos Jiménez, highlighted that these actions aim to generate new knowledge and productive tools that strengthen economic autonomy, as well as prevent gender-based violence by providing conditions of independence and empowerment. The Government of Quintana Roo, through SEMUJERES, reaffirms its commitment to substantive equality, providing women with the necessary tools to fully exercise their rights and build life projects free from violence.
